Dr. Jeffrey S. Ben-Zvi, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, FASGE, the physician at Gastrointestinal Medicine of NY, PC a private medical practice in New York, New York, provides consultations for the evaluation of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, rectum and liver.

Upper Gastrointestinal Discomfort
From minor indigestion, to ulcers, chronic abdominal pain, GERD, heartburn, acid reflux, and dyspepsia, comprehensive laboratory tests and proficiently done painless examinations like esophogogastroduodenoscopy (endoscopy), small bowel enteroscopy, PillCam capsule endoscopy, and state of the art 3D esophageal manometry and impedance measurements (for swallowing difficulties) are performed when appropriate. For patients with GERD or chronic heartburn on or off medication, a 48 hour pH (acid) test can be done. Premalignant conditions like Barrett's esophagus or dysplasia can be detected as well. Patients who require evaluation and treatment of Hepatitis or chronic liver disese are an important part of the practice as well.

Colon Cancer Screenings and Evaluation of Lower Bowel Disorders
The early curable stages ofcolon cancer are asymptomatic. It is for this reason that screening colonoscopies are advised for everyone over the age of 50, and sometimes earlier depending on ethnicity and family history. Evaluation of rectal bleeding, diarrhea, constipation, and lower abdominal discomfort as well as diagnosis and follow-up of chronic conditions such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are handled in a thorough and comprehensive manner. Sometimes simple endoscopic techniques can be used to treat bleeding hemorrhoids.
